I’m a creative academic* who’s been telling and writing stories for a long time. I’ve published over two hundred stories in collections, curricula, and as stand-alone books on everything from dogs and daddies, to morality and faith.

Life is best understood as story.

I think a lot of us live as orphans and slaves because we don’t know who we are, what story we belong to, or the part we play. Competing narratives disturb the surface of our lives and muddy the deeper reflection of our true selves. Finding the narrative thread and holding on to it (by God’s grace) is how we step into the larger story. This is why I write.

I’m married to Luci “the violinist,” and we make beautiful music together (literally). We live one exit out of Boulder (which will make a great book title someday).

*I’m a PhD with multiple degrees in psychology, theology, and rhetoric. I’ve been a seminary prof, academic dean, and chair of spiritual formation. My dissertation compares competing narratives within religion and politics.
